so this is a sweet story. i heard about nikki and shane months back when my assistant, ali, told me about a beautiful piece of art that her friend shane had created for his girlfriend, nikki (also ali’s very good friend). she showed me a photo of the piece of art and i was instantly inspired! if you scroll down to the second photo below you will see the canvas that he created using melted crayons on a canvas… he melted a whole line of colored crayons to create a rainbow and then black crayons into the shapes of himself and nikki standing beneath the rainbow under the shape of an umbrella! i thought instantly about how we could create such a special shoot based around that idea! i had my santa barbara workshop coming up and so we began to plan for that shoot to be created and for nikki and shane to be the models, of course. well, it wasn’t soon after that ali secretly told me how shane had told her to tell me how he would love to propose to nikki as part of the shoot and be able to have the whole thing documented by the photographers at the workshop. yep, he is amazing… artistic, romantic, creative and thoughtful (nikki, you scored)! and so it was all planned. and we all knew except for nikki. one of my favorite things about it all is that she really was so clueless about it and was so embarrassed that she hadn’t painted her nails and had chipped black polish on with everyone taking photos of her hand with the ring. it was darling. so she said YES and they were as happy as children just giggling and crying and dancing and skipping in, around and through that rainbow! i love how it all turned out and have to give a great big huge shout out to my creative crafting genius of a friend, lynnette duncan, for helping me out with the crafting of this project by taking my vision for the rainbow shoot and styling up the perfect life-sized rainbow. it was made of metal paint cans wrapped in crayola looking wrappers with hundreds of yards of satin ribbon dripping down beneath them. lynnette, it was amazing!!! we then made shane a bow tie out of crayon wrappers that tied the theme in. also nikki is also wearing a custom hairpiece by gracylu originals that went with her 40′s inspired dress and our theme just perfect. i love how the theme was not forced and was absolutely based around their story. i hope you enjoy the retelling of it here. a great big congrats going out to the newly engaged couple!!! xoxoxo

uh-may-zing.
