Rosalie & Arthur – Engaged!

i was over the moon to hear that rosalie and arthur would be making the trek all the way from hong kong for this photo shoot! yowzers… so honored!!! i knew i was going to have to pick a jaw dropping location since they were coming from such a distance and i was so excited to get special approval to be able to shoot at the always dreamy calamigos ranch. rosalie and arthur had a wonderfully childlike vibe about them and were so giddy about the shoot that we were pretty much all giggling until the sun set behind the ferris wheel. :)

this session was extra fun for me as well because it was the first “official” portrait session donny (my handsome hubby) and i have photographed together! we have been co-shooting weddings together for years and he has always been our creative prop building extraordinaire but he is now on board full time! stay tuned for his official introduction to come. :)

crystal and colin are both animators from vancouver, canada who, in their own words, “are both terribly enamored by the romance of the 50′s and classic Disney.” they met while both working on a popular animated children’s show which led to them realizing they had many more passions in common (including each other). they wrote to me last summer and told me that they would love for their engagement shoot to be a “first date at Disneyland – circa 1955″ (when the park first opened) and seeing that they flew all the way from canada for this shoot it was practically their first date there and i was lucky enough to get to follow them around on it! the day was literally their dream turned into reality. they were all dolled up, dancing from one side of the park to the other, and whenever we would break for a moment people would be whistling and smiling at them ear to ear. they are pure sunshine together.

this wedding was a wonderfully fun mix of elegance and playfulness. the theme was loosely based on betty & jon’s love of board games so after the ceremony we all sat down in front of this amazing fallen tree as the sun was setting and played a while!

this adorable pair drove all the way from utah to see me for this engagement shoot with their car packed full of mementos of their love… the yellow quilt he proposed to her on, their favorite books, her boating hat, trinkets of her craftiness and homemade accessories! i must say, though, that even before i saw all the goodies they had brought along, i adored them instantly. their love is the kind that makes the world seem happier, the clouds puffier and the birds a little more sing-songy. i don’t think i have ever seen a boy as smitten with a girl as josh is with amelia and, well, i am beyond smitten with the both of them. can’t wait for their utah wedding next month!

i photographed these two the day before they tied the knot. she is a country girl at heart living in london. she met him there. he’s from wales… passionate and desperately in love with her from day one. emily (the bride) grew up going to her parents’ cabin in the heart of the redwoods in summerhome park (in sonoma county) every summer since she was little… swinging on the swings, playing in the river, running up and down those rustic wooden stairs and laying in the dirt looking far up above those tall redwoods at the stars. and every summer she dreamed of her true love. and then one summer just a few years ago she brought him there. morgan (the groom) told a story at the wedding of his first summer there at the cabin… her dad took him out under the cabin to “fix some things” but really he was making sure he was good enough for his little girl. turns out, he was just perfect. (their dreamy wedding photos soon to come!)

well, our version of wonderland. :) two cute engaged folks in love, one breathtaking vintage gown, some hand painted cardboard clouds, a favorite quilt, an antique teacup collection, a cookie made with love, some mismatched velvet chairs, paper flowers, a lovely alice storybook, a pair of hot pink socks and the cutest custom cupcakes you ever saw (a big thank you to the cupcakery… they do weddings, too)! hayley, alex & i had so much fun with this shoot (in my backyard!) that we are already trying to think up excuses for another shoot before their wedding next year. ;) can’t wait! for now, here is their wonderland…

James & Lynnette’s Wedding… PART 2!

i just couldn’t not do a part 2 of their wedding. happy friday everyone.

this first one is of james waiting to see lynnette for the very first time just before the wedding. he was filled with the most wonderful childlike anticipation… and when he saw her, he could not muster one word. let me tell you, james is not often at a loss for words but seeing her in her dress at that moment brought him to his knees. it was pure magic…
