Wildflowers Photography » engagement http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog Blog Tue, 07 Feb 2012 06:15:15 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.3.1 A Dollhouse Proposal! http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog/a-dollhouse-proposal/ http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog/a-dollhouse-proposal/#comments Mon, 13 Jun 2011 15:29:05 +0000 Joy http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog/?p=4349 so kayla and shane, just dating at the time, came over to my house a few days before my “a wildflowers workshop” (held this past week in julian) to talk details about being my models in my planned dollhouse shoot at the workshop!  i showed them the anthropologie inspired dollhouse that my gracie and i had been making furniture and lamps for and decorating for days on end for the shoot, we planned the clothes as they were to be the little dolls come-to-life in a life size version of the dollhouse, we talked about the location which would be in front of a painted canvas of the dollhouse there at the workshop venue in julian, ca.  and we were all giddy except for a bit of a quiet shane.  now, i’ve known kayla for years (she used to babysit my kids before she ran off to hawaii last year and fell in love with this boy) but i guess i had expected this guy i had heard so much about to be a little more of a talker.  well, it all made sense to me when he wrote me an email later that night explaining that he had just basically been a bundle of nerves at my house because all he could think about was how he had wanted to ask me if he could propose to kayla during the photo shoot!  i basically started jumping up and down when i read that and from there we began to plot the big proposal.  so fast forward to the morning of the shoot in julian… as soon as they arrived, kayla went into the farmhouse to change clothes and shane quickly slipped me the ring.  we made a little dollhouse chair with a slit in it so that the ring would fit perfectly inside and my attendees all knew that when i said the code word halfway during the shoot that it was time to place the chair/ring into the dollhouse.  well, the moment finally came, we put on their favorite song (“God gave me you”), we put the ring in the house and then all stepped back as i prompted kayla to go over the house and rearrange the furniture for a shot.  well, long story short, she found the ring, she turned around, he got down on one knee and she said YES.  and neither one of them nor the rest of all of us weepy ladies could stop grinning after that.  it made the photo shoot amazingly special and i am so honored that shane thought to have it documented in such a cool way.  can’t wait to shoot the wedding!   ;)

now this is when she finds the ring, he got down on one knee and her swept he right off her feet, literally.  :)

]]> http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog/a-dollhouse-proposal/feed/ 29 Crystal & Colin at the Happiest Place on Earth! http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog/crystal-colin-at-the-happiest-place-on-earth/ http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog/crystal-colin-at-the-happiest-place-on-earth/#comments Fri, 04 Mar 2011 21:35:19 +0000 Joy http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog/?p=3854 crystal and colin are both animators from vancouver, canada who, in their own words, “are both terribly enamored by the romance of the 50′s and classic Disney.”  they met while both working on a popular animated children’s show which led to them realizing they had many more passions in common (including each other).  they wrote to me last summer and told me that they would love for their engagement shoot to be a “first date at Disneyland – circa 1955″ (when the park first opened) and seeing that they flew all the way from canada for this shoot it was practically their first date there and i was lucky enough to get to follow them around on it!  the day was literally their dream turned into reality.  they were all dolled up, dancing from one side of the park to the other, and whenever we would break for a moment people would be whistling and smiling at them ear to ear.  they are pure sunshine together.   :)

(their dreamy wedding photos soon to come!)

and here is the cute little couple.  zeke’s mommy and i have already arranged their future marriage, so we can only hope that these photos are just the beginning of their beautiful life together…   ;)

]]> http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog/gracie-zeke-in-love-part-2-and-the-gracie-dress/feed/ 14 Betty & Jonathan & their umbrella full of BLESSINGS! http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog/betty-jonathan-their-umbrella-full-of-blessings/ http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog/betty-jonathan-their-umbrella-full-of-blessings/#comments Fri, 02 Jul 2010 00:42:39 +0000 Joy http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog/?p=2513 betty & jonathan are engaged!  and one the wonderful parts of being engaged in betty’s culture has to do with a very special umbrella.  her family members all said blessings, “putting” the blessings into the umbrella, closing it up and tying it, later to be opened in their home together allowing the blessings to “fall” onto them and bless their lives and home as a couple.  what a beautiful tradition, isn’t it?! so, in preparation for our time together, betty asked her mother and grandmother to tell her a few of the blessings and then she printed them on paper and we hung them from a clothesline for the shoot!  it was a magical moment for me, as the photographer, to see the two of them under the umbrella, read the blessings and imagine their life in the years ahead!  aside from the umbrella, betty and jonathan really love to play games so they brought along a few of their favorites as well as a very special pair of converse shoes and some very cute pinwheels.  just my kinda folks!
