Wildflowers Photography » field http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog Blog Fri, 03 Sep 2010 19:28:06 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=abc A happy day with the Reed Family… http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog/a-happy-day-with-the-reed-family/ http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog/a-happy-day-with-the-reed-family/#comments Mon, 30 Aug 2010 20:25:15 +0000 Joy http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog/?p=2929 i heart this family.  before their shoot, shauna (the mama) had sent me her favorite photograph of her mother that was taken before she passed away.  it was of her in the middle of a wonderfully big laugh… the kind of laugh that spread across her face, squinted her eyes and just felt like home.  that photo is how she loves to remember her mother and it was exactly the way i knew i wanted to photograph shauna.  if you look at the photos below you will see that she has that same smile and i can also attest to the face that her laugh is very much contagious and has spilled out into the lives of her children and her husband that she loves to kiss oh so much.  we started our shoot at my favorite little cupcake shop (cupcakery!) followed by a very fun little picnic (how adorable is shauna’s handmade “oh happy day!” banner!?) followed by some hugging in a field at sunset.  and OH, what a HAPPY DAY is was.   :)

and here is the cute little couple.  zeke’s mommy and i have already arranged their future marriage, so we can only hope that these photos are just the beginning of their beautiful life together…   ;)

]]> http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog/gracie-zeke-in-love-part-2-and-the-gracie-dress/feed/ 14 Betty & Jonathan & their umbrella full of BLESSINGS! http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog/betty-jonathan-their-umbrella-full-of-blessings/ http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog/betty-jonathan-their-umbrella-full-of-blessings/#comments Fri, 02 Jul 2010 00:42:39 +0000 Joy http://wildflowersphotos.com/blog/?p=2513 betty & jonathan are engaged!  and one the wonderful parts of being engaged in betty’s culture has to do with a very special umbrella.  her family members all said blessings, “putting” the blessings into the umbrella, closing it up and tying it, later to be opened in their home together allowing the blessings to “fall” onto them and bless their lives and home as a couple.  what a beautiful tradition, isn’t it?! so, in preparation for our time together, betty asked her mother and grandmother to tell her a few of the blessings and then she printed them on paper and we hung them from a clothesline for the shoot!  it was a magical moment for me, as the photographer, to see the two of them under the umbrella, read the blessings and imagine their life in the years ahead!  aside from the umbrella, betty and jonathan really love to play games so they brought along a few of their favorites as well as a very special pair of converse shoes and some very cute pinwheels.  just my kinda folks!

eric:  ”i was blind until i saw your face.  deaf until i heard your voice.  you have not only given me a love i could have never known or expected before, but you’ve inspired me and expanded my capacity to be loving.”

kathy:  ”you make me a better person.  you’re what i look forward to every day.  you give me reason to love deeper and make me feel anything is possible.  you’re the reason why food tastes better.”

photographing kathy and eric’s wedding was an honor.  i met kathy last year on a rainy night at starbucks… we chatted about love, passions and mostly our shared love for all things vintage.  i was giddy after meeting and hoped i would be lucky enough to be chosen to witness the amazing day she had described.  and i was. :)  using the antique obsession as a starting point, we did their engagement shoot (see them HERE) inside some of my favorite antique stores and then took my old wooden bed into a field of flowers.  there was one point in the shoot where eric was playing his guitar and they were singing together and swaying, kathy had an orange daisy over her ear, eric was admiring her and  i just put my camera down for a minute and watched them.  i don’t do this much (i should do it more)… i was just filled with butterflies and thankfulness.  and of course, their wedding was beautiful.  every detail, every guest, every thought that went into the planning… beautiful.  most of all – the beautiful hearts of kathy and eric… the kind of hearts that love thoughtfully, with intention and MADLY.   :)

kathy and eric got hitched at the upper las virgenes canyon open space preserve.  the ceremony took place just outside an old house on a grassy lawn perched on a hillside with amazing views surrounded by fields of wild mustard flowers in every direction!  the theme was rustic.  guests drank mojitos and mint juleps out of mason jars, vintage lace hung from clotheslines, lights were strung up on trees, children were running wildly and the pinwheels fluttered in the breeze.
